REAL Talk, Springer Family Newsletter, Week of 10/19/26
Good afternoon, Springer Families! It was lovely to see so many of you celebrate International Night with us. I look forward to seeing you again at the PTA Fall Festival next Thursday, 10/29.
Gifted Referrals:
The gifted referral window will be open from Thursday, October 22, through Thursday November 12, at 11:59 PM. During this time, students may be referred to the gifted identification process by an educator, parent/guardian, community member, peer, or self. By submitting a referral, you are requesting your child be evaluated to determine eligibility for gifted services. To learn more about the gifted identification process, please click here: 26-27 Gifted Identification Information. To begin a referral, login to PowerSchool and click on forms. Follow this guide for instructions. Additional information about gifted programs can be found on our website: Henrico Schools Gifted Services Website
*Note: If your student is already identified in the area of General Intellectual Aptitude (both Language Arts and Math), the form will not appear in PowerSchool. Students who have been identified for gifted services maintain this status while enrolled in Henrico County Public Schools and do not need to be referred again.
Gifted referrals will not be accepted after Thursday, November 12. Contact your Gifted Identification Coordinator, Jehan Gabrual, (jmgabrual@henrico.k12.va.us) or Gifted Resource Teacher, Debbie Beam, (dubeam@henrico.k12.va.us) with questions.
Veterans’ Day Assembly, 11/11/26:
Please complete this Google form for us to honor you or a family member. Veterans who have completed this form are invited to the assembly in their honor on November 11, 2026, at 8:45 a.m.

Digital Wellness:
Over the summer, Henrico County renewed its commitment to Digital Wellness, guided by the latest research and valuable feedback from parents, staff, and our community. Since 2001, Henrico has been a pioneer in using technology as a tool for learning—helping to foster critical thinkers, communicators, collaborators, and strong digital citizens with quality character.
Here at Springfield Park, we are excited to continue this journey by helping our students balance their learning with a healthy mix of "green time and screen time." To support this, our teachers are now using a classroom management tool called Securly to help keep students in grades 1-5, focused on tasks. This program allows teachers to view student screens during class, block distracting websites, limit the number of open tabs, and send class-wide or individual announcements. This tool has already been a tremendous help, and we are seeing greater student engagement in our daily lessons.
We want to empower you at home, too. Parents also have access to Securly and can see which websites their child has visited simply by downloading the Securly Home app. Please note that this only monitors activity on your child's Henrico-issued device, or on a personal device if they are actively signed into their Henrico account.
Developing healthy digital habits takes a team effort. We are fully committed to doing our part at school and look forward to partnering with you at home. To support this collaboration, we will be sending digital wellness tips home periodically that we hope you will find useful.
Thank you for sharing your students with us. We look forward to working together to help them build a safe and balanced educational experience with technology.
Did You Know?
At our school, we believe every child can learn, grow, and succeed with the right support at the right time. As part of this commitment, you are receiving our MTSS/Response to Intervention (RTI) Resource Map. What is MTSS?
MTSS stands for Multi-Tiered System of Supports. It is a framework that provides academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and attendance support for students based on their individual needs.
As our valued partners in education, your involvement is essential. We hope this linked Resource Map gives you a clearer picture of the many ways we work together to support student success. Family Resource Map
Thank you for partnering with us as we nurture, encourage, and empower every learner!
